The appointment of the Honourable Sussan Ley MP as the Minister for Health has been welcomed by the Australian Dental Industry Association (ADIA), the peak business organisation representing manufacturers and suppliers of quality dental products.
"The coming year is set to be one where the new Minister will have oversight of significant reforms to the regulatory framework for dental products. ADIA has high hopes that the Minister will see the current review of regulation in this area as an opportunity to remove a lot of the unnecessary red tape that's frustrating Australian manufacturers and suppliers of dental products," said Troy Williams, ADIA Chief Executive Officer.
In engaging with the Australian Government, ADIA's primary priority is to secure a regulatory framework for dental products that is based upon a risk management approach designed to ensure public health and safety, while at the same time freeing industry from any unnecessary regulatory burden.
ADIA took the opportunity to pay tribute to the outgoing Minister for Health, the Honourable Peter Dutton MP, who is to become the new Minister for Immigration and Border Security.
"Minister Dutton demonstrated a highly nuanced understanding of the challenges presented to business by the regulatory standards for dental products and he was highly attune to the needs of ADIA members. We thank Mr Dutton for his engagement with ADIA and commitment to address our members' concerns which has resulted in the current series of initiatives to cut red tape.
On the matter of red tape reduction, ADIA also congratulated the Honourable Josh Frydenberg MP on his appointment as Assistant Treasurer.
"As Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister with special responsibility for the Australian Government's degregulation agenda, the significant recent reduction in red tape administered by the Therapeutic Goods Administration is just one aspect of Mr Frydenberg's legacy," Mr Williams said.
ADIA also welcomed the appointment of The Hon Christian Porter MP as Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister, tasked with continuing the work of cutting red tape for Australian business. It is expected that ADIA will meet with the new Minister for Health and the Parliamentary Secretary early in the new year.
