Good Design Award 2013: CEREC Omnicam and inEos X5 receive design prize

Awards and accolades CEREC

Design is not a matter of taste; it is the result of combining functionality, ergonomics and a high-quality design. The jury confirmed that Sirona had achieved design success in the development of the CEREC Omnicam intraoral camera and the inEos X5 extraoral scanner by awarding the products with the Good Design Award 2013.

The "Good Design" awarded by the Chicago Athenaeum and the European Centre for Architecture, Art, Design and Urban Studies has been an international trademark for visionary design for around 60 years. Dr. Joachim Pfeiffer, Vice President CAD/CAM Systems and Chief Technology Officer at Sirona: "We are proud that the Omnicam and the inEos X5 were given this prestigious award. This confirms our good development work and acknowledges our employees who put all their effort into manufacturing our products." Both products were designed in cooperation with the agency Puls Design. Dr. Frank Thiel, Director of Development for 3D Measurement Technology at Sirona, also sees receiving this award as confirmation for successfully combining function and design: "We wanted to convey an excellent design quality while meeting the high functional and ergonomic requirements." This was also emphasized by Peter Fornoff, Development Director of CAD/CAM Hardware at Sirona: "Revolutionary technology also needs a first-class design. After all, dentists and dental technicians have to work with these products every day."

High-tech devices save time in day-to-day work

The CEREC Omnicam captures digital impressions of the teeth without having to coat the teeth with powder or spray beforehand. These powder-free impressions save time and make the imaging process simpler. The dentist moves the camera head over the teeth, while, at the same time, a detailed 3D image in natural colors is formed on the screen. The high precision of this digital data allows dentists to construct a high-quality ceramic prosthesis that fits perfectly.

The inEos X5 is a multi-talent in the dental lab. It can be used to scan impressions and models of all or part of the jaw both manually and automatically. The extraoral scanner is flexible and saves time – it can record the whole jaw with just 5 images and digitalizes this in less than a minute. More advantages of this high-tech camera are the improved accuracy and a great depth in definition. The palate can also be scanned as well as the jaw, allowing the model casting works to be digitally constructed.

Top design

The top-quality design of Sirona products has been confirmed many times in the past few years:

  • The CEREC Omnicam was selected for the 2013 iF product design award. It received the red dot award 2013 in the same year.
  • The SINIUS treatment center received the red dot award: product design 2012.
  • In 2010, the TENEO treatment center won the iF communication design award for its EasyTouch user interface. The SIROLaser Advance diode laser also received an award in 2010: it was given an honorable mention red dot design award.
  • In 2009, TENEO received the iF Gold Award and was the first dental product to receive this award in the history of the renowned design prize. In the same year, the CEREC AC digital imaging unit and the SIROLaser Advance diode laser received the Good Design Award. The American award acknowledged the excellent design and impressive product concept of both innovations.

The GOOD DESIGN Award
