Perfect shape: inEos X5 from Sirona wins iF Design Award 2014

Awards and accolades CEREC

Sirona, the dental equipment manufacturer from Bensheim, Germany, has once again received the renowned iF product design award.

In the presence of 2,000 guests, Johannes Krug, Product Manager Lab Hardware at Sirona, accepted the coveted award last Friday at BMW Welt in Munich. After winning the Good Design Award in 2013, the extraoral scanner inEos X5 was able to impress a design jury once again, faced with major international competition from 4,615 entries from 55 countries. "Good design is not an end in itself; rather it makes an essential contribution to the fact that our products are easier to handle. The user-friendliness and quality of our products is confirmed again and again with every design award", says Krug.

All-rounder for the dental laboratory
Thanks to its outstanding design, inEos X5 impresses with its easy handling. The extraoral scanner digitalizes impressions and partial and whole jaw models with the striking 5-axis robot arm. In this way, the new scanning technology with autofocus function offers outstanding accuracy and depth of definition, thus creating the perfect platform for designing and producing CAD/CAM restorations. The new operating concept increases flexibility for the dental technician so that the scanning process can be optimally integrated into the workflow of the laboratory. While the manual scanning mode performs simple operations quicker, the fully automatic scanning mode has its benefits especially with regard to extensive operations: it reduces the steps required by the user. In addition, the data volume is optimized by the scan and the subsequent calculation of the model is accelerated.

The dental technician can quickly access the model thanks to the large and open operating area. Due to the universal model and impression tray holder, all common articulators, conventional model support and split cast systems, as well as impression trays in all sizes, can be used. Furthermore, up to four prepared stumps can be positioned in a special holder with the so-called multi-die scanning and simultaneously digitalized.

Top design
Sirona has won the iF design award for the thirteenth time in 61 years, now with inEos X5. The top-quality design of Sirona products has also resulted in a number of other design awards in the past few years:

  • In 2013, the CEREC Omnicam was selected for the iF product design award and the red dot design award. Together with the inEos X5 scanner, the camera also won the Good Design Award.
  • The SINIUS treatment center received the red dot award: product design 2012.
  • In 2010, the TENEO treatment center won the iF communication design award for its EasyTouch user interface. The SIROLaser Advance diode laser also received an award in 2010: it was given an honorable mention red dot design award.
  • In 2009, TENEO received the iF Gold Award and was the first dental product to receive this award in the history of the renowned design prize. In the same year, the CEREC AC digital imaging unit and the SIROLaser Advance diode laser received the Good Design Award. The American award acknowledged the excellent design and impressive product concept of both innovations.
