Duplicating silicones are becoming more and more popular for duplicating working models, mainly due to their ease of use - clean, fast, reliable duplicating without the need for expensive machines. The high cost of the silicone itself has always been a factor, but the big secret is that silicones can be reused! Recycled may be a more accurate term, but either way you can stretch out the value by simply chopping up used silicone and adding it into the duplicating flask as a “filler”. Mixing up smaller quantities of new silicone fills the voids. The flow rates of today’s modern silicones is so good that air bubbles should be negligible. Kontursil 16 has a Shore A hardness of 16-18, which is considered quite flexible. This would help in removing models with severe undercuts, partial dentures with complex fittings, etc. Being an addition curing silicone, mixing ratios are easy as 1:1 Kontursil 16 is available in 2 x 1 kg bottles and 2 x 6 kg bottles. It has a fast setting time of around 25 mins. Like all addition-cured silicones, only use with nitrile gloves (not latex).
