Nowadays, hard metals are widely used in dentistry. Titanium and Cobalt Chrome (CoCr) alloys offer a broad range of applications and can hence be used for the manufacturing of a multitude of dental restorations. This presents an advantage, because the smaller the amount of alloy in the mouth of the patient, the better is the absorption by the body.

Titanium has been successfully used for many years in medicine as well as in dental implant surgery. It is considered one of the most health-friendly materials that exists. This is due to its corrosion resistance and the naturally emerging oxide layer on the surface which favours the solid growth of bone onto the implant (i.e. osseointegration).
